Sausage Party- Movie Review

Seth Rogen is back with another absolutely insane idea. This time, the hilarious actor took his talents to voice acting and created a completely computer animated film about food. Sausage Party was one of my most anticipated films of the year. The first time I saw the trailer, I didn't even believe it was real. When I did more research, I was beyond ecstatic to see this film. Unfortunately, this movie was a let down.

The concept of this film is super original. That's where this film succeeds. The way every piece of food was animated was fantastic and everything looked superb. The animation of this film was on par with Pixar. You can tell the time was really put into making this film look great and it was very appreciated. The story was also pretty decent, in terms of a complete story. As ridiculous as this film was, there was a clear plot and the film never really deviated from it. The film was surprisingly smart and charming at times.

I also love the entire cast. That's what sold me on seeing this film initially. The casting for this film was top notch. The film featured the voice work Seth Rogen, Nick Kroll, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, and tons of other great comedic minds. This was a gathering of some of the best in comedy and I was beyond excited. Everybody had their moment to shine and seeing Hollywood's biggest names play food was just hilarious in the concept alone. Conceptually, this film on paper should've been one of the best comedies ever. Yet, that's where this film fails. The concept was used as a crutch and the film never became hilarious.

I was expecting this film to be hysterical. It just never got to that point. This film constantly reminded the viewer "Hey! You're seeing food talk and curse!" That's the extent of the comedy in this film. Yes, there were times where I laughed in this film. Some jokes hit really well and the first act is funny because the concept of the film is fresh. Yet, as the movie continues the cursing and juvenile jokes become old. Others really liked the third act and yes, it was funny. Yet, it wasn't anything more than smirk funny. That's where this film failed for me. I was expecting a comedy classic and got something very average.

If you enjoy comedies, Sausage Party won't fail you. You'll laugh. You just won't laugh that hard.
