The Gallows- Movie Review

Rating: D+ (In terms of cinematic overall quality).

Do not let the rating fool you, ladies and gents. The Gallows, compared to every other movie ever, lacks cinematic qualities that make the film technically great. The acting is very average, the camera work can be classified as lazy, and the false scares get annoying. Based on that list of complaints, one would think I hated The Gallows. Yet, I legitimately enjoyed this movie.
I paid $12.50 for my ticket to this film and felt I got every penny in return. This movie is really unique. Although the shaky camera technique is overly used, the idea of using two cameras was actually really cool. I thought it was unique and added to the overall suspense. The setting and plot of this movie are also incredibly original. I've never seen anything remotely similar to The Gallows. The acting is typical bad, cheesy, horror movie acting. Yet, I loved it. It made the movie feel like a classic 1980's awesome scary flick. My only complaint that remains consistent is the false scares. The first thirty minutes of this film was false scare after false scare. I feel like this is where most checked out of this movie. With a movie like The Gallows, if you can just turn your brain off and seek a good time, you'll certainly enjoy this movie going experience.

I loved the setting of this movie. The group of teenagers are trapped inside their own high school. It's so simplistic and just creepy. I also love the antagonist of this movie, Charlie. His presence is incredibly horrifying. His backstory is interesting and provides the basic plot of this movie. Now, most hate this movie for it's simplicity. The idea is super easy. The writing isn't that great. I didn't mind either. I went into this movie looking to get spooked. And The Gallows did such. I walked out of this film legitimately scared. My friends were frightened by this movie. The Gallows will make you scared.

In closing, if you want a good time in the theaters this weekend or looking for an awesome date movie, check out The Gallows. I guarantee an enjoyable experience.
